Tune your radio in to FromeFM...

On 96.6 FM from 11am onwards on Tuesday 22nd May for coverage of the Olympic torch run through Frome.

FromeFM Station manager Phil Moakes says "The Olympic torch in Frome is a once in a lifetime event and FromeFM are proud to be covering it on FM radio.  We will be following  the progress of the torch and talking to people in Frome who are lining the route."

"This will be the first LIVE outside broadcast for FromeFM on the new frequency 96.6 FM and will be monitored by Ofcom.  They have asked us to run a series of test transmissions for a couple of weeks so what better way to start than with the Olympic torch.  Afterwards we will be broadcasting a variety of programmes until they give us the green light for our full launch onto FM on 16th June.  Tune in on 96.6 from 22nd May onwards and have a listen."

We aren't allowed any advertising during the test transmissions so we are using this time to record new sponsor messages ready for our launch.  Ofcom only allow a limited amount of advertising so local businesses should visit our website as soon as possible for details.

Our picture shows Phil in his running shorts preparing for the event.  For more information about FromeFM and how to get involved visit the website www.fromefm.co.uk

“During the test transmission period we are not allowed to broadcast any advertising.  Our sponsors will use this time to record new adverts and we will be inviting a limited number of new sponsors on board ready for our launch at the end of June in time for the Frome Festival.”

If any local businesses would like to join FromeFM as a sponsor please see our website www.fromefm.co.uk for more information

Beatles book on FromeFM

‘John Lennon’ is none other than Frome Festival director Martin Dimery in a Beatles tribute band that has played gigs in Europe, the USA and The Cavern Club.

Martin has written a book ‘Without the Beatles’ including hilarious anecdotes about their experiences that is being recorded as an audiobook by FromeFM.

Martin says “Writers want people to read or hear their work. FromeFM’s new audiobook series will make that possible – and it’s all on our own doorstep.”

The new recording studio, shown in our picture, has been funded by Somerset County Council’s Creative Industries Development Fund (CIDF) & Flourish Homes.

FromeFM chairman Phil Moakes said “We’d like to thank both Somerset County Council and Flourish for their financial support. There are some very talented writers and producers in Frome & we intend to bring this work into everyone’s homes through FM radio when we launch in the Summer.”

“We have other audiobooks in production – ‘Bath Buns at Sally Lunns’ by Alwyn Dow and ‘The Violent Passage of Violet Peck’ by Frome artist and now writer David Chandler.  The audiobooks will be available to download but will also be serialised on the new FM service.”

Production Assistant, Hogan Summerfield, shown in our picture joined FromeFM after taking a Radio Production Course through Frome Community Education.  The next course starts on 14th April to sign up visit www.fromecommed.org.uk or call in at the Cheese and Grain.

Saxonvale scoop on FromeFM

People who were listening to Frome Question Time LIVE on FromeFM last Tuesday were the first to hear the news that Frontier Estates had just acquired the Notts Industries site in Saxonvale.

Development Director Damian Wood made the announcement in the closing minutes of the debate.  FromeFM extended the broadcast for 15 minutes to enable the audience to quiz Mr Wood on the development plans for the area.

FromeFMs Phil Moakes said ‘At this point the debate became very lively with questions coming left right and centre, not only from the 80 strong audience in Wesley Church but also from the radio audience sending questions in via Twitter.’

‘In view of the importance of this debate we rushed through the programme edit and it was available to ‘listen again’ on line within 3 hours.’

To listen to the debate in full go to www.fromefm.co.uk and find it under programmes and talk
